The following are some of the videoconference events that took place during the 2010-2011 academic year

Arts and Culture
  • Music Monday annual sing-a-long (picture available):
The 2nd Annual Music Monday videoconference involved students singing ‘Tomorrow is Coming’ with participants at Riverview and St Lambert CLCs in Quebec. Joining in the singing were American friends from schools in Alabama, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia.

  • Percussion Clinic (picture available):
The Segal Centre for Performing Arts and the Schulich School of Music at McGill University teamed up to bring a percussion clinic to students in 4 CLCs across Quebec.

  • Black History Celebration & Concert :
Organized by singer, producer and Music Plus veejay Malik Shaheed and featuring his Youth Star foundation performers.

Environment
  • Climate Change Project (picture available):
Elementary students from 3 CLCs discussed climate change with Peter Schiefke (Climate Project Canada) who was personally trained by former US Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore to educate the public about the science and impacts of climate change as well as solutions to address the climate crisis.

Health and Well-being
  • Pain and common diagnosis:
Presentation and discussion with Dr. Ed Monaghan former chief of Surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

  • Asperger’s Syndrome:
Presentation by Sylvia Sklar of McGill’s Centre for Educational Leadership

  • Breast Cancer Awareness:
Presentation by Anna Capobianco-Skipworth which used humor to help play down the often taboo subject of breast cancer.

  • Brainy Boomer Lecture Series:
Workshops for baby boomers and seniors which included:
Dental Hygiene, Legal Issues, Nutrition, Aging and Memory, Hearing Loss, Monitoring blood glucose.

  • Anger Management: Tools & Tactics
Howard Magonet MSW, t.s., the Director of Counseling and Development at Concordia University. VC workshop for front-line Caregivers provided to several CLCs.

  • Depression: Recognizing it & How to help
Joseph Rochford Ph.D., Academic Affairs Director of the Douglas & Associate, Professor of Psychiatry at McGill. VC workshop for front-line Caregivers provided to several CLCs.

Literacy and Student Learning
  • Youth Exploring Science (YES):
QFHSA sponsored this weekend program with a science curriculum enrichment series aimed at students across Quebec.

  • Spelling Bee VC:
The 2nd Annual VC event saw all cycles of elementary schools go head to head in a CLC provincial championship.

  • Apathy is Boring VC:
Presentation and discussion to promote the Apathy is Boring website and explain their mission to use art and technology to educate youth about democracy.

  • Go Venture:
Entrepreneurship initiative where students attempt to manage a successful business in an online simulation.  After which, they exchange their experience with other students across the VC.

Professional Development and Partnership
  • CLC Coordinator Professional Development Series (picture available):
Excel, Web 2.0 for non-profit organizations, Mobilizing Partners, Advertising and Marketing.

  • Winter Workshop Series:
Quebec Farmers’ Association piloted VC for this new and innovative opportunity for professional development in the Quebec farming community.

  • Board Meetings and AGMs:
VC meetings by various Partners of the CLC initiative.

  • Lower-North-Shore and Concordia University:
