Web Based Resources

There are an abundance of Web based resources that support the implementation of the Career Development Programs (Personal Orientation Project, Exploration of Vocational Training and Entrepreneurship). Listed below are suggestions of some of these Web based classroom resources for students and educators and links to Web sites where resources such as booklets, pamphlets, brochures, posters and magazines can be ordered. It is not an exhaustive list. Adapt the resources as required for your classroom needs.

Career Development	Open	Entry point for this MELS Career Development Web site. Find common resources for all the programs such as mentoring, evaluation and survival basics. In addition, there are links to information exclusive to each program.
POP Index	Open	A catalogue of URL links of virtual tools for students (experiential and virtual visits & key people). One means of exploration. In addition, all the tool kit guides can be found on this site (use the search function).
POP Links	Open	Contains all the website url addresses found in the POP classroom tool kits’ activity guides. Eliminates the need to type in individual addresses. Should be bookmarked on students’ classroom computers.
Career Development Info Newsletter	Open	This Career Development Info newsletter is a collaborative effort of all professionals of the Career Development Network. It contains information and practices that can be implemented in the classroom.
POP Student on LEARN	Open	The student section has a Virtual Career Library with links to sites contains academic and career information not found on the POP Index.
Differentiation on LEARN	Open	Contains information, resources, links, and much more to assist educators in their classroom with differentiation.
POP-ePEARL	Open	POP-ePearl is an electronic Web-based electronic portfolio encouraging active reflective learning. This version of e-PEARL has been adapted exclusively for the POP program and is now available. Visit the Web site for information about how to try out a POP-ePEARL demo and/or how to start using POP-ePEARL in your classroom.
Academos	Open	This Québec site is set up to facilitate ementoring with youth. Please check with your school board’s policy on ementoring before registering.
Career Cruising	Open	This online career guidance and planning tool site has many features and is relevant to Quebec. Consult the document, Integration with POP for ideas. It can be found in the Overview section of the POP Web site on LEARN. Username and password required. To get them, contact your guidance counselor.
Educaloi	Open	This Web site offers descriptions of  careers justice for students.
Aspect	Open	This Web site has an online Career Development Catalogue and training information.
Conference Board of Canada	Open	On this Web site page you will find resources, such as Ethical Guidelines for Business-Education Partnerships, etc. Scroll down near the bottom of the page for a list of these documents.
Mind mapping Strategic transitions commercial mind-mapping software Cmap freeware alternative to commercial Gliffy freeware, web-based flow chart creator		A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, or tasks and arranges them around a central idea or word. They can help students generate and visualize ideas related to their career exploration processes.
Inforoutefpt	Open	This is the MELS’s vocational education’s Web site on programs, trades, organizations and publications.
Heading for Success	Open	This site provides information for youth about employment opportunities and careers offered that demand either high school vocational training or Cegep technical training. It includes an online inventory of vocational interests and students receive an electronic report on possible trades for them.
Click Voc	Open	This Web site was developed by 5 Montreal Regional School Boards and MELS to support students in their efforts as they research Vocational Training programs. It focuses on the Montréal Region but is relevant for other regions as it promotes Vocational Training across the province. Includes a quiz, information on available vocational training programs and how to register. There is also a link to the magazine “Take your Pick”. Explo educators can use the Explo guide. EN educators can benefit from the section titled “My personality…Entrepreneurial”. All students interested in Vocational Trainings must visit this site.
Emploi Québec	Open	This Québec government site provides Labour Market Information and information on trades and professions for individuals.
Réseau des Carrefours Jeunesse Emploi	Open	Entrepreneurship Awareness & Promotions Officers work across Québec to provide teachers and educators with support at no cost. Read more in the section “Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge”.
Working in Canada	Open	Government of Canada Web site for exploring careers, trades and educational requirements in Québec and in Canada.
Government of Canada		Web site resources for youth that include sections on career, education and jobs.
Human Resources and Skills Development Canada	Open	Web site that provides information (job titles, description, wages, etc.) on Canadian occupations. Research by occupation name or click on the trades category for information on the trades.
Can Learn	Open	This Government of Canada Web site provides information on post-secondary education planning, such as skills training, apprenticeships, Cegep, college or university.  CanLearn also offers information and tools to help students make informed decisions and to achieve their career goals.
Passport to Safety - setting the standard		Canadian site for issues of work safety for youth includes videos and teacher resources.
Maze Master	Open	An Ontario Web site that contains youth resources for finding a job including sections on the job search process and for youth considering self-employment.
Destination 2020	Open	Discover what skills you have and how skills are key to finding that perfect job in your future.

Youth Social Enterprise Initiative	Open	The Youth Social Enterprise Initiative Web site supports young social entrepreneurs. The site contains 3 main sections: knowledge, financing and networking. Many resources exist within these sections, such as a guidebook, resources, podcasts, etc.
Canadian Youth Business Foundation	Open	The Canadian Youth Business Foundation is a national charity that provides pre-launch coaching, business resources, start-up financing and mentoring for youth.

However, it has many features that support the development of the competencies such as testimonials in the Meet Successful Young Entrepreneurs section. The Incubator – Your Project Launching Workshop	Open	A DVD, teacher pack, participant pack, and group pack materials in order to launch students on a step-by-step project-development process. Easy to use and can be adapted to any (entrepreneurial) project. Free resource. This site also has a “submit your project” section that allows students to describe details of their entrepreneurial projects for others to read about, join them, or be inspired by.
Future CEO Stars	Open	Future CEO stars site contains downloadable magazines and videos featuring students. Teacher resources are available.
Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education	Open	This Web site is for teachers, instructors, youth leaders, program developers and others who help students of all ages find their own entrepreneurial opportunities. This site offers classroom materials for the teacher and success stories and videos to inspire your students.
Entreoasis & GoVenture	Open	Funded by GoVenture, this website provides more than 1000 resources have already been added to the Entrepreneur Oasis:  tools, Templates, Best Practices, Lesson Plans, Case Studies, videos, indicators, simulators, etc. for students, parents, teachers and the entrepreneurial community.  Learn about yourself as an entrepreneur to becoming an entrepreneur.  There is also a section for facilitators. The GoVenture website (www.goventure.net) has IdeaBooks for teachers.
Design of Educational and Entrepreneurial Activities	Open	MELS toolkit for elementary and secondary students. There are learning activities across all the subject areas. There are overview charts on the entrepreneurial learning process and qualities. Free downloadable resource.
Entrepreneurs in the Classroom	Open	“The purpose of this teaching guide is to provide secondary school teachers with simple, functional tools that will help them organize visits by local entrepreneurs and cultivate in students an interest in entrepreneurship. This guide outlines how to plan, prepare, carry out and evaluate a classroom visit by an entrepreneur.”

Architects of Change	Open	A site dedicated to sustainable change. Includes brief and inspiring case studies that originate from community need, as well as a blog.
These Kids Mean Busines$	Open	A quiet revolution has been growing in recent years. In this Web site, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Clarence Page tells the story of young budding entrepreneurs across the country and the programs created to foster their interest and understanding of the free-market.
Global Entrepreneurship Week	Open	International, national and local entrepreneurial ideas for youth. For one week in November this organization strives “to inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity. To think big -- and to turn their ideas into reality”.
National Entrepreneurship Day	Open	Suggested activities to mark the annual National Entrepreneurship Day in schools and in communities. Links and tool kits for teachers are provided.
Canadian Sector Council - Cars	Open	This Web site contains downloadable materials such as Motive Power Repair and Service Occupations by Career Path, CARS Essential Skills Complexity Cards and Essential Skills Wheel.
Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council	Open	On this Web site, you can download a copy of Careers in Aviation and Aerospace to get further information on the rewarding and unique careers that the aviation and aerospace industry has to offer. Brochures Women in Aviation and Aboriginal Careers in Aviation are also available for download.
Canadian Grocery and HR Council	Open	This Web site offers career videos, career profile videos and many downloadable materials such as brochures and posters.
Canadian Plastic Sector Council	Open	This Web site “provides useful links to on-line educational resources on plastics as well as videos, downloadable guides and handouts.”
Canadian Supply Chain Sector Council	Open	This Web site offers brochures, handouts and links to other supply chain resources.
