The mandate of Preschool Education
Preschool education has a threefold mandate: to serve as a rite of passage that gives children a liking for school; to foster children’s overall development by motivating them to exploit their full potential; and to lay the social and cognitive groundwork that will prepare children for their future schooling and enable them to continue to learn throughout their lives. The Kindergarten Development Profile (KDP)
The
Kindergarten Developmental Profile (KDP) is the result of a
pilot project funded by a provincial grant which involved teachers and consultants from the
Riverside School Board, Lester B.Pearson, the MELS and LEARN-RÉCIT. The KDP was designed to
provide a spectrum of what a kindergarten student could look like
across the six areas of competency as defined by the Preschool Education Program. The KDP is
an
authentic assessment tool that teachers can use to track
their student's progress in an ongoing manner. In addition, we believe that the KDP will help
kindergarten teachers better link the Quebec Education Program into their classroom practices. As a
result, this will assist teachers in
providing for differentiated learning for all their
students.
