When you read a ghost story, you expect it to have certain features. Five Days of the Ghost doesn't seem to be a "typical" ghost story. Do you agree or disagree? Explain why. NEPTUNE |
March 25,1999
Dear Neptune Dialogers,
I agree with that, because normally,g host stories seem to be a lot s spookier. This novel
has a lot of jokes in it and it can be very sad too, like when Karen and her brother tease each
other. Or when Karen was describing how her twin got killed in the accident. But I think that later
on in the story, it will begin to involve some suspense and, like the title said, ghosts.

Dear Creative,
I agree with you also that ghost stories are more scary than this but we have only just
started the book so it may get spookier as we read on. Personally I don't really enjoy ghost
stories or scary books but so far I really like this book. Whenever I'm reading I don't want to put
it down. To me it's a real page turner.

To the people of Neptune,
I personally find that ghost stories are not scary. I laugh when Michael Mayers kills people
in Halloween. Ghost stories are really well pathetic to me. I find them not at all suspenseful. And
only when a killer is on the lose do I not want to put the book down. Don't get me wrong. I'm not
insensitive, it's just reality. I know that it is not real so no one really got hurt.. But I just
find it funny when someone dies, maybe that's my way of being scared, without being scared. Ghost
stories really don't appeal to me, and I personally find it boring.

Dear Nirvana,
I don't really agree with your response. Sometimes ghost stories can be a little
pathetic, but I still find them good. I personally find 5 Days of the Ghost pretty good. There are
some things I find very pathetic, but I still think it's a good book. It seems as though you like
mystery stories. I would rather read a story about a ghost than read a book about a murder, even
though I do like mysteries too.

Dear Creative,
I personally really like the story. I don't think the book is pathetic. I find it very
interesting. That is something I don't enjoy reading is mysteries stories. They're okay but it's
something I would look forward to reading. In the story do you know what those drawings Karen keeps
finding on her Dad's work desk are all about. I think it's Kenny because the last picture if you
turn it upside down it's a k.
Shorty
dear shorty,
I agree with you totally that it is kenny who is writing the stuff. when noah said that it
was some one that lived in their house, I knew that that theory was right and also that noah is
definitely not weird at all. so what, he is a goth! I mean it is personality that counts. I mean
why could the ghost be, well mean or weird. also when karen was dreaming about the bag I think they
meant something. every time in there meant kenny, the ball, the plane they were all in the box she
took out that reminded her of kenny, also the watch means going back in time, back in time to when
kenny died. so all of this (to me) says that kenny is the ghost who is around the place.

Dear Nirvana,
I totally agree with you! When Karen was dreaming about the bag I said to myself right away
It's got to be Kenny! I don't think Noah is weird either, I think Noah's pretty cool! The thing is
the ghost isn't Kenny it's the rich man who was killed in the house! I think that later on in the
story there will be something that has to do with Kenny. All the clues lead to him! I can't wait to
finish the book and find out the truth about all these mysterious things that are happening. I hope
nobody in the story gets hurt.
Shorty
Dear Shorty, honestly girl, you should definitely go with the french approach, wouldn't Shorté
be a lot better?
Anyway I think I would have to agree with what you were saying! Kenny was the first person
that entered my mind too.
I don't know if later on there will be something that has to do with Kenny, but if there was
that would be really cool. Now that I think of it, a lot of the clues are pointed to Kenny, but I
just have this feeling that everything doesn't really have to do with him! But who knows, I could
be wrong!

I agree with your response. I also think it is Kenny who is making those drawings. It could
also be the Indian. I find that at this point the story is getting better and better. I find that
Noah has something to do with this too. I understand he is helping them find the ghost, but
sometimes he seems suspicious.
Creative
April 13,1999
Dear Creative,
I think that Karen has a crush on Noah. And that Noah has a right to be angry at his father
all the time. He's so not understanding and so, unimaginative. You would at least think that he'd
be nice, he is a priest. And also the suspicions about Kenny being the ghost was right, when they
recorded the hall way that night it proved that it was. But I do think John has a good point about
wishing that it wasn't Kenny, and that's like losing the someone twice. Also now that they know who
the ghost is they can confront him. I mean what can a 5 year old ghost do to humans? They should go
into the hallway and talk with Kenny. Ask him why he wrote his name on the paper, and why his
running around the house. It would make their mystery come to an end.

Dear all responders,
Well to start off I would like to say something to 2 tall. I will definitely take the French
approach Shorté in to consideration. I knew that the ghost was Kenny. It's true what they said all
the clues lead to playful things which definitely leaded to Kenny. I find that Noah's father isn't
understanding either. Like when Karen went to ask him about ghosts he told her what he believed and
made it seem as if anyone who thought differently was wrong. It was sort of like it's his way or
the highway!!! I agree that the story keeps getting better and better. I think that is a great idea
if they try and speak to Kenny. I think if I found out my brother was the ghost I would be scared
but happy. I think it would be cool to talk to him and see what he's doing. I understand why John
doesn't want to believe it's but it's true what he said. It's like loosing someone all over again.
Shorty
Dear Shorty,
Well I guess you were right, the ghost was Kenny!!! It's just that, I wasn't expecting it,
because I mean I couldn't imagine myself haunting my brother or my family. All though it would be
neat to know that your brother is still kind of around. I understand what you mean about Noah's
father, he was so not understanding, he kind of ruined that part of the story for me, because he
was so annoying!

People of Neptune,
I would like you all to imagine yourselves in the position of Karen, or John. Now replace
Kenny with a loved one you have lost recently. So now that you've done that see how you feel
knowing that that loved one came back to haunt you. But he/she has their reasons. Like maybe they
want you to remember you 'cause they think you forgot them. Now 2 Tall you could imagine yourself
haunting your family, or any of your family haunting you. Kenny and Karen have a bond that will
never go that is why you see that Karen hasn't forgotten anything about the day Kenny got run over.
So Kenny being a kid, could have though that his brother and sister were getting over his death,
that they didn't care about him anymore. (Being young and all). So he felt that he should take the
chance and come and haunt the family so they would remember him.
But really if you think about it. Karen does have a crush on Noah, she has all of the signs.
And every 2 paragraphs she talking about how he looks. I'm positive that one of you has had a crush
before. (I hope)... So you know that Karen's feelings are similar to yours.
Nirvana
April 23,1999
Dear Nirvana,
I totally agree with you. Kenny might be scared that Karen and John have forgotten him, so
that is why he haunts them. He is only a kid, and he probably feels that he is not remembered, even
though he is remembered a lot by Karen. Kenny and Karen were very close. But I don't understand why
Kenny bangs so violently on Karen's door. He must be trying to tell her something. You can tell
Karen has a crush on Noah. It's so obvious. She even said herself that he was cute. And she always
is describing him and what he wears.
Creative
Creative,
I think that you gave a very good response. You gave complements to the writer and you gave
your opinion, witch was well expressed. The only thing that I disagree with is that I think that
Kenny is not in worry they have forgotten about him, I think he feels that they must let him go. I
have really liked the book, it has adventure, mystery, suspense, I think the author is very
creative, he has wrote a great book. I liked reading your response and I hope to read another.
Touchdance
- Dear People of Neptune,
Don't any of you find that the book is well, to predictable?? I mean come on, make something weird happen. It's to predictable, for example: you knew when Kenny was going to come, he always comes at - night when it's late, when the chimes start bowling and it gets cold.
- also you know that the chief will come when someone goes on the island Chief will go to the other side at the end
- And Kenny goes away to.
- Also this novel really has a weird way of describing teens, specifically John. At the being of
the book he was like a little kid, wanting to go to the island. But then near the end he's all
organised and responsible, it's annoying. The book also had to many details, who cares if little
kids are playing in the park. The details go down to the last hair clip in Noah's hair. The book
would be a lot shorter if there weren't as many details. That is all for now.
Nirvana
Dear Nirvana,
Honestly, What are you talking about?!? Okay, I understand if you think the book is to
predictable but then give some proper reasons. When night fall comes and the chimes blow, and it
gets cold, the author is doing something every writer does in a BOOK, it's called setting the mood!
They aren't trying to make you feel surprised, it's supposed to be predictable, so you are able to
know when Kenny or the chief is coming!!! Speaking of the Chief, you also said it was to
predictable, because you know when they go on the island that he is coming. Well just take a minute
and try to understand that, the WHOLE REASON that they are going on the island is to see the
CHIEF!!! I'd love to hear from you again my little crazy cupcake

2 Tall,
Crazy little cupcake??? I don't like nicknames, especially when I don't know the person. But
it would be more surprising when Kenny would just come out of know where and show up!!! First of
all, Karen is all so scared to hear the bangs on the wall, when she knows when it gets cold that
Kenny is coming. And they didn't go to the island to see any chief first of all. But when they go
to the island, why can't it be for at least once that Karen and John go to the island and don't see
chief there??? Ask yourself that question.
Nirvana
Dear Nirvana,
Listen, I was just joking around, about the nickname thing, look I can understand what you
are saying, it is a bit annoying how they always make a big deal out of everything. The first time
is understandable, but now they have to relax, because there isn't anything to get all nervous
about, Anyway, I guess I should apologize, because I thought about it and I can understand what you
are trying to say!
2 tall
Dear Nirvana,
We've had our differences through out this disk-ussions section, but seeing this is PROBABLY
going to be my last time on, I took the opportunity to read through all that you have wrote and I
think you have given pretty good responses! But you have to admit, difference of opinions make a
conversation much more interesting! I would also like to tell you I really enjoyed the response
about Kenny, I have to agree completely with what you were saying! You told me to imagine loosing
someone really close, and I have so I can understand what you mean about Kenny coming back for what
ever reasons he has, I know I would! Anyway, nice discussing this book with you,

1 I really liked your response to Nirvana. You gave your true thoughts about the pieces you
have read that were hers. You did not let your first thought of the piece be your last, it is very
good that you revised your thoughts of the pieces. It is good that you gave positive comments about
her work, I like when you said you liked the fact Nirvana told you to put your self in the
situation of loosing someone close, then by telling what you think is very good. I think you gave a
good response
