ICT Strategies:
Enhancing competency development of students through the use of technology.
The following educational approaches suggest ways of using Information and Communication Technologies in Physical Education and Moral and Religious (Ethics) classroom settings.
Creating a DVD to be used as a teaching tool
The purpose of this project is to create a DVD, which will contain many sport related skills. In the gymnasium, students will participate in the demonstration of the movements, the filming and the editing of this useful DVD. This important audiovisual tool will create an important bank of movements that can easily be available to students. This step by step video accessible with the use of a TV and DVD player in the gymnasium will help students understand how to perform the skill and how to achieve mastery.

I can see myself in my soup!
Is it easy to talk about myself? Who am I? If I had to compare my personality traits with the one of an animal, which one would I be? If we are what we eat, what type of soup would I eat? A soup or a cream? With rice or noodles? The creation of a soup label will help students understand their qualities, talents and the role they play as a student in the class room or school.

Using a computer in the gymnasium to compile various results
This project consists of having a computer accessible in the gymnasium to facilitate the gathering of various results. This will involve the students to be more autonomous in the collection and compilation of their results by entering them in the computer.

Using the DVD technology as a learning resource
This project consists of making available a DVD player and TV, near or in the gymnasium, to demonstrate various motor skills available on a DVD. In the learning stage, students will be able to access and view the various demonstrations on a certain skill. These demonstrations are preferable performed by students of the classroom or school. The goal is to make the students autonomous of their learning by making many resources available to them for that purpose. Various sports can be demonstrated on a DVD such as, jump rope skills, circus skills, gymnastics, soccer and many more.

Video capture to facilitate self-correction
This project allows students to view themselves after performing a motor action. The students are filmed by the teacher or a classmate while they execute their movements. Afterwards they can view which elements were successful or which need to improve. Finally, the students will be able to compare themselves to a pre-existing model (DVD, video sequence, etc…)

The digital camera during cooperative activities
This project allows students to observe one another’s performances within a collective activity. For instance, after a group of students form a pyramid, one student will take a picture of the formation. This will allow the performers of the pyramid to view themselves and apply modification to realize a better pyramid. The students will learn, observe and discuss as a group which aspects of their pyramid need to be improved or kept before trying to perform a better pyramid.

The digital camera and the static positions
This project allows students to view themselves in a static position (candle, bridge…) as is realized in gymnastics. One student will take a picture of another student performing the static movement. The performer will be able to view the picture and decide which aspects of the performance should be changed and which should be kept in order to improve. The student will be able to compare his performance with other students or an established model, using posters and photos of what the performance should look like.

Video and metacognition
This project consists of using a video camera to film student responses and comments on various questions regarding ethical issues. After reading and finding the deeper understanding of a story, the students will realize that their answer has changed.
