Healthy Active Living Journal Secondary
Secondary Cycle 2

The new Cycle 2 Health Journal is available throughout the province via your school board's Physical Education and Health counsellor.   Certain boards (such as the EMSB here ) have also posted their version online.

About the journal

This year's Secondary Health Journal Team has produced this document to meet the needs of students in order to develop the 3rd Physical Education Competency, “Adopts a healthy, active lifestyle.”

As with last year's Cycle 1 journal the main objective of the Healthy Active Living Journal is to enable students to develop an action plan for the year that will encourage them to change or improve upon their health.  Resources are included to help keep track of fitness and lifestyle information. Included also are the tools necessary to assess the impact of different actions on their health. You are more likely to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle if you are aware of the factors that impact you in a positive or negative way.

Remember, it is essential that this resource be used in coordination with the “Physical Education and Health program” in order to maximize all learning situations. All three competencies in Physical Education and Health are interrelated, with the third competency “To adopt a healthy active lifestyle” based on the first two; “To perform movement skills in different physical activity settings,” and “To interact with others in different physical activity settings.”  The underlying assumption is that as students improve their movement skills and their ability to interact with others, they will become more physically active and therefore will improve their level of personal health. In order to maximize motivation, it is important that the third competency not be isolated from the other two Physical Education and Health competencies.

This IDC-sponsored project is available to Quebec teachers in PDF form (downloadable as at EMSB) or possibly on a CD from your counsellors.  It is for personal classroom use only.
