Plan of the Elgin Settlement
The Elgin settlement was a plan devised by Reverend William King to establish a Black settlement in Upper Canada for Blacks entering Canada either from Southern slavery or from the Northern states. It received the support of the Governor-General, the Lord of Elgin, and it was officially incorporated by an Act of Parliament, the 20th of August 1850.
