Evaluation for Potential Online Students
Will online learning fit your son or daughter's circumstances, lifestyle and educational needs? Here are some basic questions to ask in deciding whether an online course is right for your child.
1. Do you and your son/daughter feel that high quality learning can take place without having face-to-face interaction?
2. Can your child dedicate a few more hours per week than he/she would to traditional courses offered in a classroom?
3. Is your son/daughter a self-motivated and self-disciplined person?
4. When it comes to schoolwork and deadlines, is he/she a procrastinator?
5. Is your son/daughter comfortable communicating in writing?
6. Does he/she enjoy reading?
7. Does your son/daughter find class discussions helpful?
8. Is he/she familiar with email, computers and new technologies?
9. Is your child patient enough to cope with occasional computer "glitches"?
10. Is your son or daughter a creative problem-solver?
The ideal candidate should answer yes to all, or most, of these questions.
