FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


Q:  Are all students in the province of Quebec eligible to participate?

A:  All students aged 14 – 17, who attend an English public or private school in Quebec are eligible to participate.



Q:  Can I submit a text that is less than 1,500 words or more than 3,000 words?

A:  Yes, but if you do, points will be deducted from your score.



Q:  Does the person or group I write about have to be famous?

A:  No. As long as this person or group has done something to make their community a better place, they can be famous or unknown outside the community.



Q:  Can the influence of this person or group be in any community?

A:  Yes, it can be in their own community or in any other community.



Q:  Must a parent or guardian consent to this?

A:  Yes, your parent(s) or guardian(s) must sign the hard copy of the application form, showing that they are aware that you are participating in this contest. If you are a winner, you will spend a week at Encounters with Canada in Ottawa, and a parent or guardian must consent to this.



Q:  I will turn 18 during the coming school year. Can I still attend Encounters with Canada?

A:  The week you choose at Encounters with Canada must take place before your 18th birthday.



Q:  When will contest winners be announced?

A:  The deadline for contest submissions is midnight October 15, 2010. Winners will be announced no later than November 26. Winners must attend Encounters with Canada during the 2010-2011 school year.
