The following sites contain lesson plans, projects and activities that meet the aims of the new QEP and include GOAL components. They all link Subject Area learning to the Broad Area of Learning called Personal and Career Planning.

English:

Library of the Workplace: English  http://cord.org/workplacelibrary/index.html  A series of QuickTime video clips profile a Sales Manager at AT&T. The manager emphasizes the importance of strong oral and written communication skills for success in any kind of work environment. She credits the daily reading her mother required her to do as a child for helping to build her current skills. Click on Academic Concepts followed by English.

Math:

Library of the Workplace: Math  http://cord.org/workplacelibrary/indices/academic.html  : Workplace based math problems involving: ratio; percent; matrices; order of operations; working with formulas and Fourier Analysis. Complete problems and solutions can be downloaded free of charge. The beauty of this site is that the math problems are offered by workers from AT&T, SONY and the U.S. Navy and come with job profiles of the workers, background information about the company and lists of additional work skills that relate directly to the cross-curricular competencies of the new QEP. An amazing site for linking math skills and GOAL. Be sure to click on all the links to read more about the workers' background and training and print a full package which gives your students the big picture with respect to math in the workplace.

Real World Math Projects for Sec. I  http://www.crhs.rsb.qc.ca/teachers/Coyne_Susie/index.html   Two teachers at Centennial High School created Secondary I hands-on math projects to help students learn first hand about area, perimeter, percentages, budgeting, problem-solving and life skills.

Science:

Astrobiology Curriculum  http://astrobio.terc.edu/  Suitable for middle school and high school students, this site provides a series of inquiry-based activities centered on the search for life on other planets. Students will explore diverse concepts in chemistry, biology, physics, Earth and space science, and engineering.

Canadian Space Agency Educator's Corner  http://www.space.gc.ca/  The Canadian Space Agency's website has an Educator's Corner for teachers which offers detailed lesson plans, materials, ideas for demonstrations/experiments and a guest speakers bureau related to space, environment and other science themes. Lesson plans are clearly labeled for grade level and topic. The Mission to Mars unit is an excellent integrated unit which also can be linked to art, language arts and mathematics activities. Library of the Workplace: Science  http://cord.org/workplacelibrary/att/frank16.html  : Download a real world telecommunications troubleshooting problem and solution offered by Frank, a Telecommunications Technician at AT&T. Check all the links to understand more about Frank's current job, previous training and how he uses math and science concepts everyday at work. Quicktime video clips offer real workplace examples of: light and optical systems, Ohm's Law/resistance; circuits; fiber optics; radar signals and high-frequency communications.
