Human Resources and Skills Development Canada’s Talk about skills with your teens. This site offers an opportunity for parents and teens to discuss skill development. It looks at identifying existing skills and how to development of new skills. It also has examples of ways to build skills for specific jobs, i.e., paramedic, electrician, retail manager, etc. If time allows search the section Career Planning for the Audience Youth and Students. Be patient as it is a big site to navigate through but it is worth the effort. Maybe visit the following HRSDC site for youth with your teen. Visit the Canadian Career Development Foundation web site for resources. Click on Resources and look in the catalogue. Look for the publications Lasting Gifts: Parents, Teens and the Career Journey, CCDF 036 and Lasting Gifts: Workshop Series Becoming a Career Development Ally for your Teen, CCDF 031. One publication is targeted to parents and the other is targeted to a facilitator of a workshop of parents.

Career Advise from our panelists during the week of Take Our Kids to Work. This event was held on Wednesday, November 5th across Canada. Quebec English High schools were participants, particularly in the POP classes. Parents act as host for students exploring different sectors of work.
