Information Literacy
With the plethora of information available, what do we need to know to find what we need to answer our questions?
-
Do you want answers to questions that have been bothering you?
-
Do you want answers to questions that affect your life?
-
Do you want to get information to solve bigger problems?
Whatever your questions - you need to do research to get your answers.
Research Process
What questions come out of it to help you define your search
Define your search
Search (gather information)
Evaluate the information
Do you need more? Go back - Do I have too much? How could I improve my search strategy?
Use your information ethically
And throughout you need to
organize your
information.

The more we aim our research questions at the higher end of Bloom's taxonomy, the more we are requiring our students to think critically and creatively. These higher order thinking skills are part of what are addressed in the cross curricular competencies. The competency: Uses Information deals specifically with the research process.

ISIS seeks to teach children and adolescents about the inquiry process and develop their competencies in information literacy. This collaborative project between the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance (http://doe.concordia.ca/cslp), LEARN and the English Montreal School Board ( http://www.emsb.qc.ca )
