Tagging
| Definition:
|
A tag is a keyword used to describe a website, image, video. An item may have several tags.

Many "social" sites use tags to help you find items. For example, when posting an image in Flickr (a photo sharing site), people can add tags so that the photograph can be easily found later by searching for a specific tag. Social bookmarking sites also work this way. |
| How to:
|
Libraries use common vocabulary to help you search through their collections. When tagging for
yourself or your class you can create unique tags which help you share for specific purposes in a
social bookmarking site such as
Delicious. For example, teacher A doing an
LES with her class on racism may chose to use the tag: teacherAracism When she and her
students use the same tag they can easily search delicious to find the shared sites.
Hash tags # are also used on microblogging sites such as twitter. You can then search twitter for a particular hash tag and find all the tweets on that subject. e.g. A tweet about project based learning may contain the tag #pbl - you can then search twitter for #pbl and find what everyone is sharing. |
| Pedagogical uses:
|
Tags help you find your own saved items, but they also help you find items tagged by others.
