The General Context

A public address book contains the full name (family name and first name) of all the users registered on a particular server. The family name and first name of each user are generally associated with that person's E-mail address. When an E-mail address is created, the user automatically gains access to the public address book of the server to which he or she is now registered. The address book is therefore accessible to and shared by all the subscribers of that server. (FirstClass, for example, works this way.)

Some software makes it possible to include other information, for example, the school that the user attends, the school board, the status of the user, etc.

The Issues

User Identification | Identification of User's Status

User Identification

A public address book usually contains the user's full name (family name and first name).

Identification of User's Status

With some software, the user's status , the user's school (administrative number, name, etc.) and school board are made available along with the user's name. This information is therefore included in the public address book.
