Interactive Whiteboards

Using information and communications technologies (ICT) in the classroom is quickly becoming a hands-on and interactive experience, for both teacher and student.   This section of LEARN supports the use of SMART Board™ and other Interactive Whiteboards, through some of our RESOURCE COLLECTIONS as well as access to our various workshop materials.  (See below)

An INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARD LEADERS PLC

New for 2010 is the IWB PLC, a Professional Learning Community for Interactive Whiteboard leaders.  If you are working with a SMARTBoard or other technology in your school and wish to share your materials, activity ideas, opinions or even questions, the IWB PLC is a place to do it.  It is also now the only provincial forum for Anglophone-sector teachers to work together on developing uses for these wonderful new technologies.

Once you are part of the community, login to the website with your LEARN account and access it via the Learning and Community Portal button on your "My LEARN Homepage".

LEARN-RECIT SMARTBoard™ workshops

The LEARN-RECIT partnership offers teachers several workshops per year, including an all-day workshop at QPAT.  During those workshops we often distribute Materials, any Powerpoints we use, and sample Notebook files.  The participants also share any Notebook files they produce.

Note:  These Handouts and Notebook files are available to all teachers via the IWB PLC private community. (see info above)

LEARN-RECIT IWB RESOURCE COLLECTIONS

Our resource collections have expanded greatly now that we are working directly with key RECIT persons to gather a variety of websites to help support teachers and students.  Sections now include:

Training  |  Research and Articles   |  Blogs, Podcasts, Wikis & Webinars

As well as various Resources arranged according to cycle and subject area.

Make Your Own Interactive Whiteboard

It is actually possible to construct your own interactive whiteboard, with inexpensive materials and computers and projectors already on hand. Though this option does not (yet) include touch-sensitive boards or the extensive presentation software that comes with commercial options, it does allow for similar interactivity and arguably the same learning experience.
