Four Good Reasons to Communicate
There are as many reasons to communicate as there are project ideas. But here is a simple way to group them. Each one is illustrated by a few real project invitations or detailed project descriptions that will give you a good idea of what the teachers wanted to achieve and how they went about it.
1- You need information that others can offer you first hand.
- 100th day Celebration: Crusade of Kindness
- Electronic Postcards from Around the World
- Sunset in Barrow
2- Your students could benefit from having an audience for their work.
- Two-Minute Mysteries (Grades 5-7)
- Revolutionary War Connections
3- Your class is developing expertise or interest in an area and wants to share it.
- Earth Day Grocery Project: This project has grown into a yearly classic from its humble beginnings as a great classroom idea
- Words for the World
4- Your class needs collaborators to extend the value of their research or project.
- The Tooth Tally Project (Grade 1)
- Global Human Trait Survey (4-11)
- Spring Acid Rain Watch (Grades 5 to 8)
- The Noon Observation project(Grades 8-11)
- Étude comparative entre pays
- Culture Project
- Parle-moi de mon pays d'accueil
- Pédagogie électronique (WKTO)
- Mail exchanges
- Correspondance US/FR-proj. Image
- La langue aujourd'hui
- Collaborations linguistiques
- Défis Internet Langues
- El mundo es un pañuelo
6- Your class needs to consult an expert in a particular field.
7- Over time, your students have accumulated difficulties, particularly in language arts. A stimulating and well structured e-pal project would interest them, lend itself to revisiting the basics of written language and involve other subject areas at the same time. Students would also discover students from other places and cultures.
