Dear Teachers & Students,

My grade three class would like to invite you to help us celebrate 100th Day of school by
helping us collect 100 acts of kindness. Not imaginary, theoretical acts. Real acts of kindness
that happen every day in your classroom. In our class we already started our collection with the
following:
- One student's mother took time out of her busy work day to come into our classroom and help us
with a wonderful tie dye project.
- Another mother came to help us with Native picture writing short stories.
- One Grade 3 student let a Grade 1 student take his turn in his favorite recess game. He was
very proud to tell us . He was so excited he could hardly get the words out in his one, big
breath!
- Another student has trouble with his shoe laces. He has so many knots tied he could hardly tie
a bow. A student took the time to untie the knotted laces. You should have seen the look of joy in
their eyes.
I've put up a chart titled, Join Us In A Global Crusade Of Kindness. The bulletin board is
covered with light blue paper. A large construction paper globe of the Earth is in the center. We
have prepared 100 white paper stars mounted on gold foil stars slightly larger. These white and
gold foil stars will shine all around the globe of the Earth, in a radiating circular fashion when
our project is complete. It means for us, the earth is full of "acts of kindness" shining down on
each one of us. Everytime someone notices an "act of kindness" we put up a star. We have a box that
the students put their suggestions in each day. At the end of the day we go through the slips of
paper the children have written. We save the slips of paper in a scrapbook.
Even though the children love the idea, the list grows only slowly. That's why we need your help
to reach 100. Join our crusade. Pay attention to the kindness. Send your collection before February
10, 1998. to reg.jack@sympatico.ca
All participants will receive a complete list of the "acts of kindness" received. We'll tell you
what we did with it too. Please hurry and help us reach our goal in this global crusade of
kindness.
