The Story

In January 2004, members of the QESN-RÉCIT team visited Marymount Academy (of the English Montreal School Board) to document Marymount's experience as a pilot school at the secondary level. We met with Principal Paola Miniaci, Vice-Principal Felix Gelbart, as well as with teachers and students, who talked candidly about their experience in implementing the Québec Education Program.

 

Marymount in a Nutshell


Marymount Academy is located on the Island of Montreal and is a microcosm of the city's multicultural population. The student body of approximately 670 students represents over 60 ethnicities.

Marymount received its pilot school status at the beginning of the 2002-2003 academic year. Housed within Marymount is an International School that is home to approximately one-third of the student body. The teaching staff at Marymount is approximately 40 strong, with a full-time principal and vice-Principal.
