Description

This workshop is designed for teachers who are already familiar with the internet. Active learning, knowledge construction, collaboration, reflection - we strive to achieve this in our classes. But how do we harness students’ energies towards those goals? Ubiquitous technology in their environment and ours poses new challenges yet offers new opportunities in this regard. To become global citizens in a global world, our students need to know how to use technology more deeply to communicate and collaborate. They need to engage in reading and writing in today’s modalities, to learn to interact/react with people/ideas from different cultures and understand the many points of view that they are exposed to. They need to learn to make meaning, make sense and build knowledge. And they need to do it with the tools that will be theirs in their future. In this hands-on workshop we will uncover a selection of tools that can help us work on these and other important/challenging educational goals. These Internet-based tools can help us create learning environments that tap into student interest and motivation by facilitating the implementation of a student-centered learning process. And as a bonus, these are tools that can easily become part of your and their personal life. Please bring your own laptop if you have one.
