CLC Models at a Glance
All Community Learning Centres have a Community Development Agent (CDA), a member of the school staff dedicated to the development of school-community partnerships.
These partnerships help educators leverage community resources and integrate real-world, authentic and engaging learning opportunities for students. In turn, the schools/centres become access points for community organizations and service providers to offer programming and resources to students, their families and the English-speaking community at large.
Building the collective capacity for schools to thrive in this way has a direct impact on student achievement that often results in collaborations on projects with complementary outcomes.
Our Provincial Resource Team guide school leadership teams through the Framework for CLC development. Currently, there are three approaches to the community school initiative:
Single-site characteristics: One school, one vision, one plan, a small number of leaders.
Multi-site characteristics: Multiple schools and communities, multiple visions, multiple plans, multiple leaders that work independently from one another, CDA(s) supports largely distinct strategies, activities and goals.
Extended model characteristics: Multiple schools within a shared region serving the same community (often feeder schools), one unified vision, one plan, shared strategies and activities, many leaders with a high need for ongoing collaboration.
