Process suggestions using documents in this collection:
Discuss prior knowledge of chiefs and their roles in indigenous societies.
Choose three aboriginal societies (First Nation group, or language group) and note their region on a map.
Use documents to research different the roles of chiefs and councils of elders in different societies.
Establish which facts about chiefs councils and elders are relevant to your chosen society.
Use Relevant Facts- Specific to group or territory (LEARN) organizer . For each society chosen describe the role of councils of elders and chiefs, and how the chiefs were appointed.
Between each society list what is similar and what is different in terms of chiefs and elders.
Use a Compare and Contrast organizer in a Google or Word doc to list similarities and differences.
Create a Cartograf map to identify societies and to explain chief/counsel roles in each, and differences between societies.
